Relaxation - Regeneration - Range of Motion
The horse being a creature of prey tends to hide discomfort and even pain as long as possible.
Undue tension and tightening in any part of the body will reduce the effectiveness of the entire body.
Immersive Equine Bodywork: Horse and Sense LLC offers customized sessions with multiple bodywork modalities as well as exercise-based plans for prehab, and rehabilitation programs after injury (with veterinarian approval).

Masterson Method ® - is a unique, multi-modality method. It stimulates the nervous system and releases tension in the major junctions of the body that affect performance.
Equine Sports Massage promotes muscle health and increases flexibility. It reduces the chance of injury by maximizing range of motion and decreasing muscular restrictions.
Prehab: Personalized bodywork, groundwork, and under saddle exercise plans to address sport specific areas and/or to enhance overall wellbeing.
Rehab: Personalized programs consisting of bodywork and therapeutic exercises to help re-establish the physical condition that existed before an injury or illness (subject to veterinarian approval).
Fun and "hands-on" workshops for riders on a variety of topics, e.g. equine sports massage, groundwork, exercise programs, and more!
Coming soon: Pilates for Horses
Workshops are in small groups for individualized attention.
Depending on the horse I may utilize the RollArt® Fascia Roller. This tool is handmade from Alder wood in Germany. It especially helps to address adhesions of the fascia. Horses -and humans- love the feel of it!
A lifelong horseperson, rider, competitor (German Federation FN Bronze Medallion, USDF Bronze Medal), I am always seeking ways to improve my own horses' and my client horses' wellbeing and to support optimum performance.
Following equine anatomy studies, extensive training and practice in the Masterson Method ® of Advanced Integrated Equine Performance Bodywork I also became certified in Equine Sports Massage Therapy.
My special interest is Equine Physiotherapy, I completed extensive training and continue to expand my knowledge through classes in Germany and the UK.
Having a solid professional network is important to me. I regularly consult with top equine bodywork professionals, and I work closely with several veterinarians and equine chiropractors.
Frequency of Sessions
This depends entirely on the horse's needs. Horses on a rehabilitation program post injury may require several sessions in one month.
Recommendation for maintenance sessions is every four to six weeks. Horses in full training, competing, or with a heavy workload usually benefit from a more frequent schedule.
Chiropractic Appointments
Veterinarian-chiropractor recommendation: Bodywork sessions should be a few days up to the same day BEFORE the chiropractic adjustment. Taking tension out through bodywork supports the chiropractic adjustment
Saddle Fitting
Bodywork should be done BEFORE the saddle fitting, as the musculature changes by release of tension.
Pre- and post-session recommendations
Before a session: The horse should have had time to relax after a ride if a session is scheduled. It should be dry and reasonably clean.
After a session: The horse should be hand-walked briskly for about 10 minutes and/or turned out. The following day should be an easy riding day.
If you start asking for demanding work too soon, the tension will return before the horse's body has had a chance to integrate or process the release.
From Farm Owner and Instructor:
Birgit came to our farm and worked on several of my school horses. What impressed me the most was that through her exploration, she was able to pinpoint the issues my students work with under saddle. As she worked with the horses, the riders were able to see the physical origins of the issues they deal with when they ride. It gave the riders a different perspective on the crookedness that we address during our lessons. Each of the horses that Birgit did a session on felt great to the riders on their next rides. From an instructors view point, I was able to conduct the lesson following Birgit's bodywork and use what the riders had seen to enhance their feel of the issues that cause imbalances in the horses. Birgit is a great addition to any equine's "Healing team"!

From Horse Owner and Dressage Rider:
Highly. HIGHLY. HIGHLY recommended. Birgit's passion for equines well being is transparent anytime you interact with her. The horses well being will make for a more optimal partnership, in my point of view. She's an avid dressage rider so it makes sense she applies her knowledge to hers and everyone's equine partners self care program. Horse and Sense obviously a great match. Support women owned, small local business.

Seminar/Workshop Feedback:
Birgit Villeminey of Horse and Sense LLC treated TRI volunteers to a demonstration of Advanced Integrated Equine Bodywork and Equine Sports Massage Therapy! Such an informative session! Major works hard in both our therapeutic riding lessons and para-dressage program. He's been responding wonderfully to Birgit's bodywork. We're always looking for ways to support our hard-working horses--a huge thank you to Birgit for helping Major and for showing your techniques to our volunteers!
